Math: fluently adding and subtracting within 100 using place value understanding (Base 10, Expanded Form, and Numberline). We did a check-in on Friday. This will be assessed again this Friday. Students can practice strategies at home with math workbooks. Writing: introducing our informational topics and building body of writing with facts and details. Reading: Students Pumpkin book reports are due, Tuesday, 30 October. We are also asking and answering questions with nonfiction texts. This will be assessed again on Friday. Language Arts: Using apostrophes with contractions and possessives. We will spell more r-controlled words with week: learn, girl, turn, heard, twirl, churn, person, dirty, another, perfect Social Studies: describing how Cherokee and Creek American Indians used the land in Georgia. Important Information: Tiger Trot Kick-off: Tomorrow afternoon, Teasley students will attend a kick-off for the Tiger Trot! Unit of Inquiry: Living things adapt in their environment. Important Information: Red Ribbon Week: Red Ribbon Week is a time for us to focus on healthy behaviors and drug and bully free choices. The theme is “Life is your Journey-Travel Drug Free. Red Ribbon week was started all across the United States in 1985 in honor of a United States drug enforcement officer who was harmed by people who sold drugs. People started wearing and displaying red ribbons to show support for the fight against drugs. This month, October, is also National Bullying Prevention Month. This week we will have special fun theme days each day to show our support and remind us of the fight against bullying and drugs as well as our decision to make healthy choices. This week, we are:

We will review this standard for the next 3 weeks. Students are able to pick their favorite strategies to show their understanding. Writing: planning an informational writing (how-to) piece. We will practice one piece altogether and then allow students to pick their own topic for their expert writing. Reading: describing how words and phrases give rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song. Language Arts: using apostrophes in contractions and spelling R-controlled words (star, mart, market, start, party, shark, spark, garlic, scar, until, left). The last two words are sight words. This week, we are: Math: solving word problems involving pennies, nickels, and dimes. This will be assessed on Friday. Next, we will begin a unit on collecting data and displaying on a graph. Writing: writing narratives on-demand. Reading: describing the structure of a story to include beginning, middle and end. I am evaluating individual reading levels for the end of the first quarter. On Thursday, our class will go to the Media Center to renew and/or checkout new books.
