I can’t believe its the last week before Christmas Break!
This week, we are: Math: reviewing adding and subtraction as well as solving word problems. Our final fact fluency assessment will take place Wednesday. Writing: writing an on-demand informational writing piece. Today, students brainstormed and researched a topic of their choice. Tomorrow, students will writing assessment. This will be their final informational writing this quarter. Reading: reading with fluency and comprehending main ideas with reading level assessments. Language Arts: identifying and using reflexive pronouns (herself and myself). There is no spelling assessment this week. IB Central Idea: Relationships impact outcomes. We will wrap up our force and motion unit with a STEM Challenge tomorrow and a reflection on Wednesday. Important Information: STEM Challenge: Today, students planned and designed their structures for the STEM Challenge. Tomorrow, they will build with recyclables! Please send in any recycles at home! Friday, January 25, 2018 (Projects are due Wednesday, January 23, 2018) Submit your very own science fair project to the Teasley Science Fair! This will be a competitive event, and there will be judges and prizes. Projects will be judged on Friday, January 25th and will be displayed in the Media Center for several weeks. Six top-place science fair winners will be accepted to the Cobb-Paulding District Science Fair. Winners will be notified by the Science Fair Coordinators. The district elementary fair will occur on February 9th, 2018 at Lovinggood Middle School. If you are interested in participating in the science fair, please sign and return the registration slip that went home last week to Mrs. Jean (3-5) or Mr. Bailey (K-2) by December 14th . Students will then be given a packet with additional information. This week, we are: Math: using addition and subtraction strategies to solve one step and two step word problems. Students must use pictures, numbers, and words to answer word problems. We will work on this standard for the next few weeks and assess along the way. Please also work on mastering addition and subtraction facts 1-20 by the end of this quarter! Writing: publishing informational writing and researching a new topic (biographies). Reading: determining the author’s point and reasons in informational texts. We are practicing with a text about Tomochichi. This will be assessed on Friday. Language Arts: decoding and spelling vowel dipthongs with oo sounds- brew, soup, blue, clue, cashew, group, pursue, blew, cartoon, flew. We will also finish our unit on capitalization and proper nouns. IB Central Idea: Relationships Impact Outcomes. We are exploring this idea with how Mary Musgrove, Tomochichi, and James Oglethrope worked together in early Georgia. On Wednesday, we will move onto Science with exploration stations for pushes and pulls. Important Information Field Trip Forms: Please return permission form and payment by THIS Friday, December 7th!
